Dott. Fabrizio Violati (ITA/SM), died on Jan. 21, 2010
Dott. Fabrizio Violati (born on June 17, 1935) - founder of the Collezione Maranello Rosso at San Marino - died
at the age of 75.
His deep passion with Ferrari and his open and generous kind stay unforgetable.
I knew from him in Germany out of an article of 'Quattro-Ruotte', which a friend of mine and owner of
a 328 GTS had lent me.
On a business trip in February 1990 at Rome I consulted a telephone-book to get his number. For the next
day we met at Campidoglio during lunch-time.
He showed me an engine of a 275 GTB w. valve-covers off and so I learned to know Ferrari cup-pestles.
At the great hall in front of the other Ferraris stood his 250 GTO #3851GT covered w. a black overcoat.
He allowed me to take the driver's seat. Wow, what an overwhelming feeling to sit in it.
We arranged for the weekend at a meeting of the Ferrariclub Roma at the Vallelunga racetrack as his guest.
When opening his first museum at San Marino I was soon there for different occasions. Once I was allowed
for half a day to take pictures all on my own. Exception was not to use a flash. With tripod and remote
shutter release this was no problem to me.
Matchless pictures were created, also as reason of the many wall-mirrors.
Much too late I learned of the decease of Dott. Fabrizio Violati. Same happened to the loss of his only son
Stefano in 2024.
