Helmut Becker, died on october 2, 2018
Helmut Becker died shortly after his 76th birthday (*24.07.1942) after longer sickness.
The well-known Ferrari dealer of Auto Becker, was the son of Wilhelm Becker who put up the
business from used car-dealer to importing noble makes like Rolls Royce or Ferrari into Germany.
His financial background allowed him to support those who assisted him in his activities and
targets.
Thus when taking over the Ferrari MODEL CLUB (FMC) in 1995 my first trip was to visit him at his
premises at Düsseldorf. As he was one of only two main-sponsors to the FMC I owed him this one-day
trip by train from Munich.
I met him in his big office next to a table w. a glass-plate fixed over a 12-cyl. Ferrari-motor.
Incoming guests came continuously and left their Ferraris and Rolls Royces in the court-yard.
In the evening there was a warm buffet in place and so I learned to know the famous belgian motorsport
journalist and former Ferrari racing-driver Paul Frère arriving just from Montecarlo.
I knew Helmut Becker only as a very generous man. As in 2002 he fell in hefty financial problems this
hit also the FMC sponsorship. As one of the only two main sponsors his support broke away for ever.
Without replacement in sight of the near future this was the cause for the end of the active Ferrari
MODEL CLUB for the year's end.
